Radically Retro 1979 Citroen GSA Dashboard Tape Drives, Vaporwave
The GSA (called the GS between 1970 and 1979) was Citroƫn's attempt to fill the massive hole in their lineup between the very basic 2CV and Ami and the wildly advanced DS lines. The GS/GSA was a clever, streamlined little fastback with an air-cooled flat-four driving the front wheels. It was Citroƫn's biggest volume seller for years.

The new 'satellite' dashboard was, however, a revelation, with all the controls grouped so that they can be operated with the fingertips, while keeping both hands on the wheel. A five speed gearbox was introduced at the same time, standard on the upmarket cars, optional further down the range.

Right - in 1975, Heuliez proposed this hatchback version of the GS to Citroƫn. This was rejected but five years later Citroƫn launched its own hatchback version - the GSA. In 1980, the GSA was launched, featuring a five door hatchback body, new dash featuring PRN satellites (in the UK the GSA soldiered on with the old style dash for a year or so) new plastic bumpers and a new grille.

This 1982 Citroen GSA X3 is said to have been imported to the USA by an Austrian diplomat and then put in storage for 20 years. The seller adds that it has only 119k km and is in good overall condition, though no mention is made of rust. The X3 was the sporting GSA, and even 30 years on it still manages to look futuristic and unmistakably French.

The Citroƫn GS is a front-engine, front-drive, four or five door, five passenger family car manufactured and marketed by Citroƫn in two series: for model years 1970-1979 in fastback saloon and estate bodystyles and subsequently as the GSA for model years 1980-1989 in hatchback and estate body styles - the latter after a facelift.
